Genre-bending cult legends Cardiacs are ramping up their activity with news of another single from their long-delayed 6th album LSD.
After a live streamed airing of their 1988 Town and Country Club performance, the band announced that the digital single "Woodeneye" will be released on Friday, 1 August 2025.
Cardiacs had been inactive since founder and frontman Tim Smith suffered a stroke and heart attack in 2008, halting progress on their next album, tentatively titled LSD. A first single, "Ditzy Scene", had already been released in 2007 to promote the album.
With Tim unable to continue working on the album due to dystonia, acts from across the music world helped to raise money for his treatment through tribute albums like Leader of the Starry Skies, Songbook 1 and individual covers, with artists such as Oceansize, Steven Wilson and grindcore greats Napalm Death all helping to raise funds for Tim. Tragically, Tim Smith passed away in 2020 - but this was far from the end for Cardiacs.
After the release of "Vermin Mangle", one of the few completed tracks from LSD, members past and present, centered around bassist and Tim's brother Jim Smith, returned to the stage in May 2024 playing shows across the UK with a rotating cast of Cardiacs alumni and friends to honour Tim's music and memory. In late 2024, Jim confirmed that Tim had been overseeing work on the album before his death and that the band were determined to complete the album so that it could see the light of day.
Now, it seems that day is getting a lot closer, with "Woodeneye" set for release on 1 August.
LSD will be released in the near future via the Alphabet Business Concern.
